The Pilgrims Discussion America 250 and the Transatlantic Relationship

June 18 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
THE KING’S SPEECH

This year marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, commemorated in part through the State Visit of His Majesty King Charles III to the United States earlier this year.
In his address, The King reflected on the enduring relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States, observing:

“The story of the United Kingdom and the United States is, at its heart, a story of reconciliation, renewal and remarkable partnership.”

The King’s speech was widely praised for its thoughtful recognition of the shared traditions, values and history that continue to underpin the relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States. The speech served as a powerful reminder of the depth and continuity of a relationship shaped over centuries by common democratic, legal and cultural traditions.
For more than a century, The Pilgrims has stood at the heart of the transatlantic relationship — bringing together leaders and perspectives from diplomacy, business, academia, defence and culture in a spirit of dialogue, fellowship and understanding.

As part of this important anniversary year, The Pilgrims is delighted to host a discussion exploring the enduring bonds between Britain and America — a relationship shaped over four centuries through shared traditions, ideas and institutions, from the principles of common law and parliamentary government through to the enduring values reflected in both nations today.
The evening will feature:

  • Jim Zirin, American lawyer, author and television host
  • Robert Hardman, journalist, film-maker and royal biographer

Together, they will reflect on the intertwined histories, shared values and enduring spirit that continue to bind the United Kingdom and the United States across generations.
